America is headed toward a "historic mistake" allowing the Iran nuclear deal to go through, and will end up paying for it, Rep. Bob Dold, told Newsmax TV.

"This does not prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, it actually preserves their ability to get one," Dold told "Hard Line" host Ed Berliner. "This is going to be a historic mistake to move forward."

Senate Democrats blocked Republican efforts on Thursday to block the deal.

At some point, the West will have to take the Iranian mullahs at their word that they plan to wipe Israel off the map while shouting, 'Death to America,'" said Dold, who represents a heavily Jewish district.

"This is very bad," Dold said, "and we're going to provide them with $150 billion of sanctions relief ,which frankly we know is going to be going into Hezbollah, Hamas, into [President Basher] Assad in Syria, to fund terror around the globe."

The money going to terrorist groups "is going to ultimately turn around and I believe bite us in a big way," Dold said.
