Essayist Hayward: Border States Swamped by 'Deliberate' Crisis

A "deliberate" effort to push amnesty by flooding the U.S. with illegal immigrants is leaving Texas and Arizona with no choice but to manage a crisis that will cost border states and the federal government billions, political observer and essayist John Hayward told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

Hayward joined "Midpoint" host Ed Berliner to talk about two recent articles he wrote for Breitbart and Human Events. Hayward wrote that a bipartisan "amnesty chorus" in U.S. political circles, amplified by governments in Central and South America, is luring people north in large enough numbers to make residence for illegal immigrants a fait accompli.

The result of that "invitation" is the humanitarian crisis now unfolding in border states, said Hayward.

"They're storing people in warehouses," said Hayward. "They're sending them to military bases. It's a nightmare. The pictures coming out of this are horrifying."

Confronted with these horrors, and the enormity of the latest influx, U.S. officials are unlikely to attempt to turn the migrants back, said Hayward.

"They're not from Mexico; they're from Central and South America further down," he said.

"So it's not a simple matter of sending them back across the border. They're unaccompanied children. They're coming from countries that are torn by violence.

"I really don't see there's any way to send them back home. We're going to be told we have no choice but to make them citizens."

Hayward said U.S. officials also had to be aware of the latest surge in illegal border crossings, which has played out in plain sight over the course of a year, "and yet no preparations were made."

The upshot is undocumented immigrants being shuffled from overcrowded detention facilities in one state to bus stops in another, and freed on the promise that they'll turn themselves in for further hearings.

"The entire system was completely incapable of responding to people answering logical incentives," said Hayward. "I don't really blame the people trying to get here. I just find it incredible that thousands of them are sending unaccompanied children here."
