Bryan Cranston, the star of AMC's "Breaking Bad," said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is "refreshing" in a recent podcast.

During an interview on "The Nerdist," Cranston talked with host Chris Hardwick about a variety of subjects, including Trump.

When Hardwick said he wanted to start a show about bowling, Cranston said, "Maybe when President Trump is inaugurated."

"I actually like his candor," Cranston said, before switching to a Trump impersonation by saying, "You're an idiot. I'm a winner, you're a loser."

The conversation then took a more serious tone, with Cranston saying Trump has provided the United States with "a surprise benefit."

"There's something so refreshing about shaking up that world that is all about being handled, and here comes this loose cannon — who has terrible ideas and would be a horrible president — but there's something great about his 'I-don't-give-a-[expletive]' attitude that really kind of keeps others honest," Cranston said. "I think it's a surprise benefit to the country, actually."

Cranston and Hardwick then said they both look forward to seeing what Trump's next move will be.

"I can't wait to see these and many more [GOP debates]," Cranston said. "I hope he stays in for a long, long time. And just collapses that whole tent of his."

Trump, a real estate mogul, had a strong performance at last week's debut Republican presidential debate despite a tiff with Fox News about how he viewed its line of questioning toward him. A poll taken in the days following the debate showed his support is still surging, and he leads most of the major national polls.

Trump's fellow GOP candidates have mixed feelings about him being in the race and his tendency to say what he feels.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who has enjoyed his own surge in the polls, said this week Trump has been good for the GOP.

"I think he's bringing more people into it," Carson said. "I think he's getting people excited who have, you know, felt that nobody's listening to them and that nothing's gonna change, so that's good."

Other candidates, such as Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, haven't gotten along with Trump and want to see him go.

"I'm all for levity, I'm all for humor, but I think reality TV and the presidential election ought to be separate," Paul said.
