Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., appearing on Newsmax TV, blasted CNN anchor Don Lemon’s comments about supporters of President Donald Trump.
Donalds’ remarks came during a Friday appearance on “John Bachman Now.”
Lemon had said Wednesday on CNN: “If you voted for Trump, you voted for the person who the Klan supported. You voted for the person who Nazis support. You voted for the person who the alt-right supports. That’s the crowd that you are in.”
Donalds, asked about Lemon’s comments, said: “I think it’s awful. I think he’s totally wrong. Frankly, I don’t really care what Don Lemon says or thinks. He has a job to do and so do I. You have 74 million people who voted for Trump. They are all members of the Klan? That’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s asinine.
“As much as the left and Don Lemon want to talk about the president’s rhetoric, their rhetoric is worse because what they’re trying to do is define an entire section of the American people and put on them the labels of the worst, the most tragic, and the most heinous groups we’ve seen.
“Don Lemon is wrong. CNN should hold him accountable for his words and his actions. But let’s see if they do. I actually doubt that they will.”
