Candy Carson: Ben Staying in Race to Help Future Generations

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has no plans to drop out of the GOP presidential race as he seeks to save the country for future generations, his wife, Candy Carson, tells Newsmax TV.

"If someone asked us if we were doing this for ourselves, it would not be worth it," Carson told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "It's for our children, our grandchildren and future generations."

The $19 trillion debt would take 5,000 years to pay off a rate of $10 million a day, she said.

"That's hard to comprehend and we're putting this on the backs of our children and grandchildren and their grandchildren," she said. "It's not fair to them, and Thomas Jefferson said it's morally wrong to steal from future generations."

Carson said Saturday's debate, which turned into a verbal slugfest between businessman Donald Trump, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, was "immature."

With all the distractions in the world now, the debates should be a place where real issues are discussed, she said.

"My husband has written 11 policy papers that are on our website to show that he really cares more about getting the job done as opposed to getting into office," she said. "It's much more important for us to start talking and thinking about what we're going to do to turn things around because we don't have much longer."

The Carsons are Seventh-day Adventists, and Candy Carson pointed to Trump's salty language and the Cruz campaign's claim in Iowa that Carson had dropped out of the race, urging Carson supporters to vote Cruz.

"Our country was based on Judeo-Christian values, treating each other with respect and that sort of thing," Carson said. "I would say that by their fruits you shall know them. If we're going to try to get our country back to what it was originally intended, we need to put someone in there who's more about we the people than about their egos or anything else."

Ben Carson is the only candidate without political ties and baggage, she said. "We have so many problems we don't have time for all this kind of nonsense."
