Rep. Carlos Gimenez on Tuesday lauded President Donald Trump for taking "bold action, decisive action" on the first day of his return to the White House, but the congressman added that he would have taken matters further.
"I probably would have made it really simple," the Florida Republican told Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "I probably would have rescinded everything that Joe Biden ever did, because [he] has proven to be the worst president in U.S. history."
Trump's first order signed was to rescind 78 executive actions, executive orders, and presidential memoranda that the Biden administration had enacted, including measures addressing immigration, gender identity, DEI policies, and items related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"My biggest takeaway is that it's a brand new day for America," said Gimenez. "Our national nightmare is over because President Joe Biden is no longer president of the United States."
Gimenez added that it was "great to see" Trump's common sense in action.
"Joe Biden obviously didn't put America first," Gimenez said. "He put America last."
One of Trump's executive orders was signed to reinstate Cuba as a national state sponsor of terrorism, and Gimenez, the only Cuban-born member of Congress, said he was happy the president was able to handle the matter so quickly.
Biden on Jan. 14 moved to remove Cuba from a list of terrorism-sponsored nations. Trump had placed Cuba on the list at the end of his first term of office in 2021.
Gimenez said that Biden had often claimed that he wouldn't lift Cuba from the list, but Gimenez said that "you never listen to what Joe Biden says."
"You always watch what he does, and everything he does is against American interests," Gimenez said. "That's just another piece of that puzzle of putting America last and putting America's enemies' interests first."
Gimenez also said Tuesday that Biden's last-minute move to pardon his family members preemptively did not come as a surprise, and added that the pardons came as there are many signs that "point to some shady dealings" by Biden dating to when he was vice president.
But even with the pardons, Gimenez said, that does not mean Congress can't investigate the family members or even bring charges against them.
"OK, that's fine," said Gimenez. "You're pardoned. There's nothing we can do about it. But America needs to know what happened. ... History needs to know exactly what happened during these four years and [Biden's] previous time as vice president."
