Sharia law is strict, but not as extreme as some insist, according to controversial Islamic activist Anjem Choudary.
"If someone insults the honor of the prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam … [it] carries an Islam capital punishment and they should be tried in front of a Sharia court," Choudary said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.

"For the person who commits fornication in Islam there is 100 slashes. If people are married and there is sufficient evidence, if there is witnesses, whether you're male or female, that carries stoning to death — that is certainly true.
[But] if you merely disagree with someone, we're all into debate and discussion. There's no problem with that."
Last month, the radical Muslim cleric was arrested in London, where he lives, along with eight others on suspicion of belonging to a banned organization and promoting terrorist activity.
Choudary believes there is nothing wrong with attempting to institute Islamic law in Great Britain, even though it is not an Islamic country.
"All land belongs to God. I was born in Britain, I grew up here and I've lived here 47 years of my life. There's no reason I should go anywhere else. Why can't I propagate Islam here?" he said.
"I propagate something that I believe is superior to the British … I would love for the people to embrace Islam in their life."
Choudary added: "The only place that is actually implementing the law of the Sharia is the Islamic State. By the way, my passport was taken from me on Friday so I can't travel. It looks like I'm stuck here implementing the Sharia right here under the noses of the British."
Choudary was the leader of al-Muhajiroun, which was banned by Great Britain in 2010.
He infamously appeared on Fox News Channel's "Hannity" last August, defending the Islamic State (ISIS) and saying that reports it beheaded and crucified people were untrue.
Hannity continued pushing Choudary in that debate, eventually telling him, "I don't want your sharia law."
"You will have no choice, Sean," Choudary said with a broad smile on his face. "It's coming to a place near you."
