Citizens United's Bossie: Establishment Has No Choice But to Back Trump

Members of the Republican establishment have no choice but to back Donald Trump for president now that he has secured enough delegates to win the nomination, Citizens United President David Bossie tells Newsmax TV

"Look, guys like us, every four years we have to wring our hands whether it was Mitt Romney or John McCain or whomever they nominate, and we've always been on the losing end," Bossie said Thursday on "Newsmax Prime."

Trump remains a divisive figure among Republican voters, but the prospect of a Hillary Clinton presidency is a "motivator," he said.

"I think that's certainly what motivates me, and I know the Clintons better than most, and they scare me to no end."

Even some conservatives are concerned about Trump on certain issues, Bossie told host J.D. Hayworth, but he has managed to win the nomination, doing so with far less money than competitors such as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

"'Low energy' Jeb had the biggest campaign machine, the most money, the super PACS, $150-$160 million, and got no votes," he said. "Donald Trump had very little money, outside money, he self-finances. He has virtually a skeleton staff and he has the most votes. It's because he has a message. He has a message for conservatives that resonates with Americans."

Turning to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Bossie said his organization is "deeply concerned" over the Wisconsin congressman's performance now that he has taken his new position.

"We want Speaker Ryan to hear us," Bossie said. "Just yesterday I believe it was the bill that they allowed the Democrats to attach the gay and lesbian so-called transgender bathroom bill. Why Paul Ryan is allowing these things to happen under his speakership is outrageous. Why that would get to the floor?"
