Pointing to the lack of prosecution of former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for alleged lies under oath, Corey Lewandowski ripped the recommended sentence for Roger Stone as "completely absurd."
"If anybody in America thinks a nine-year sentence for Roger Stone is fair and equitable, then we clearly have a different view of what justice is," Lewandowski, Trump 2016 campaign manager, told Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now."
Comey and McCabe were at the FBI under Operation Crossfire Hurricane, which investigated the Trump campaign for potential ties to Russia election meddling efforts in 2016. The origin of that effort has come into question, along with their leading and leaking of it, including error-ridden FISA applications.
"These people lied under oath on multiple occasions and they haven't been prosecuted," Lewandowski told host John Bachman.
"And I think – as much as I am not a fan of Roger Stone – this notion that he was going to receive a recommendation of seven to nine years in jail for lying to Congress or obstruction is completely absurd."
Also Thursday, Attorney General William Barr spoke out in an ABC News interview Thursday against President Donald Trump's tweeting about the Stone case. Lewandowski said the Justice Department had already made a decision to reduce Stone's recommended sentence before Trump tweeted about it.
The sentence was likely being reduced to about two to three years, Lewandowski estimated.
"I still think that's very aggressive for someone who has never had a criminal record," he concluded.
Lewandowski, who has turned down running for office in 2020, is still working to assist the Trump campaign in its 2020 re-election effort.
