Corey Lewandowski, who served as President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign manager, said he is sad he “missed the signs” that Brad Parscale was struggling.
During a Tuesday appearance on Newsmax TV’s “John Bachman Now,” Lewandowski said he feels that he “failed” Parscale as his friend.
“I'm sad that I missed the signs that someone was so deeply troubled that they thought their only solution was to either hurt themselves or somebody else,” Lewandowski said.
Parscale, the president’s former campaign manager, was hospitalized after his wife called 911 saying he was armed and threatening to commit suicide. He was sent for a mental health evaluation under Florida’s Baker Act.
Lewandowski said he hopes Parscale “gets the help that he needs and deserves.”
“Politics is a very important thing, but there are things that are more important,” he said. “As a society we have to understand that our words have consequences and when we see someone who's troubled and is fighting those demons, we need to do everything we can to help that person.”
Lewandowski then made what he called a “bold prediction” about the results of the 2020 election.
He predicted that Trump will “win by a larger electoral margin” in 2020 than he did in 2016. He said the Trump campaign is “on the offense” in states like Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Nevada that they lost in 2016.
“We’re a unified party right now,” he said, noting that 98% of the GOP supports the president.
He added that Trump also has “unprecedented support” from African American voters.
