Dr. Ben Carson tells
Newsmax TV that Donald Trump will avoid picking a vice presidential running mate based on politics.
"I don't think he's going to make a political pick. Typically people pick, oh, this person can bring me this state or this demographic. I think he's beyond that stage," Carson said in an interview with Newsmax TV's "Dennis Michael Lynch: Unfiltered," airing Wednesday at 9 pm/ET.

Carson, who dropped out of the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination earlier this year, added that Trump will avoid a running mate who does not agree with his controversial platform positions, such as his plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States.
"I don't think he would pick such a person," Carson told host Dennis Michael Lynch.
Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon, believes the vice presidential pick is of vital importance.
"It's very important, because it's important to have somebody who can help you, not somebody who plays a traditional vice presidential role but somebody who can take on some major areas and add a lot," he said.
"I think the real issue is do you have somebody that you can trust? And somebody who is on the same page?"
Asked by Lynch about his campaign run-in with Sen. Ted Cruz, whose campaign staff falsely floated that Carson was suspending his campaign and invited his supporters to back the Texas senator instead, Carson said:
"I think he's a politician … Politicians do whatever you need to do to accomplish your goal."
