Donald Trump has made poor border security and illegal immigration major issues in his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, and his recent tour of the U.S.-Mexican border in Texas focused attention on the problems.
The compelling documentary "Donald Trump at the Border" chronicles the business mogul's trip to Texas. It airs on
Newsmax TV on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
Trump traveled to Laredo, a city of around 250,000 in an area where the border is considered particularly porous.
Border Patrol agents had planned to participate in Trump's tour of the border, but they scrapped their involvement at the last minute in response to what Trump insisted was "orders from Washington" and superiors "who do not want people to know how bad it is on the border."
Despite the cancellation of their plans, a spokesman for the agents did acknowledge: "Make no mistake, our border with Mexico is not secure."
"Donald Trump at the Border" follows Trump during a visit to Texas that was embraced by local officials and brought out throngs of supporters, with Trump reiterating his desire to run on the Republican ticket while leaving open the possibility of a third-party candidacy.
Trump leads the other GOP presidential hopefuls in most recent polls.
