Georgia GOP state Sen. Greg Dolezal said on Newsmax Monday that "the walls are closing in" on Fulton County Attorney General Fani Willis as she faces allegations of improperly using state and county funds for a corruption probe of Donald Trump and others.
In an interview on "Wake Up America," Dolezal said, "There's a lot of smoke, and we need to know how big the fire is."
"I think that there's a lot of questions that have to be answered. I think the walls, honestly, are closing in so that citizens and taxpayers can get those answers," he said. "We see Fulton County commissioners pressing for answers. We, in the state Senate, are pressing for answers. There's an ethics complaint filed with the county and then ultimately we also have the state forming the Prosecutor Oversight Commission.
"So where this goes, I think that there's a lot of questions still."
According to Dolezal, lawmakers have to get to the bottom of what state and county funds were used in Willis' corruption investigation of the former president and several others — and in her "relationship" with a special prosecutor she hired to seek convictions of Donald Trump and others for interfering in Georgia's 2020 election.
"This is the big question: Was this, and is this, prosecution for personal profit?" Dolezal asked.
"We're going to form the committee this week," he said of an investigation by state lawmakers. "We're going to probably issue subpoenas by the end of the week. And we hope to get to the bottom of this within the next 60 to 90 days."
