Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz told Newsmax TV on Tuesday that Democrats are “normalizing” impeachment, decried the hypocrisy of Missouri Rep. Cori Bush and said the banishment of conservatives from social media is only the “front end of the wave,” saying demonetization is next.

Gaetz, 38, a third-term Republican whose 1st Congressional District includes a large swath of the Florida Panhandle, said he was very disturbed by the Democrats’ behavior in the House, particularly with their calls for invoking the 25th Amendment and calls for impeachment of President Donald Trump.

“I’m deeply troubled by what we see from Democrats,” Gaetz said on “Spicer & Co.” “Just last week they were telling us that they were going to be the party of unity and healing and democracy, and now they’re trying to expel members of Congress that have been duly elected. They’re trying to impeach and remove a president of the United States and they’re not doing much to help lower the temperature in our country at all.

“It seems to me that impeachment is constantly a tool of not only division but distraction for the Democrats.”

Gaetz referred to the probe by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller that investigated supposed connections between members of the 2016 Trump campaign but also discovered that much of the information that initiated the investigation came from foreign ties to the Hillary Clinton campaign. He also noted that concerns of connections between Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and Ukraine timed with the impeachment of Trump regarding the president’s dealing with the country.

He added that questions and criticisms of the election procedures and results in several states has now brought a second impeachment discussion.

“Sadly, they are normalizing this process that is bad for our politics,” Gaetz said.

Moreover, he mocked the efforts of Bush, the first Black woman to be elected from the state of Missouri, who has introduced a resolution to expel members of the House who objected to certification of the Electoral College results using the 14th Amendment.

Bush has referenced the Civil War era amendment part of which was intended to keep Confederates from returning to Congress by claiming the House Republicans who objected to certification as inciting “insurrection.”

“Not only are they utilizing stunts now, they utilize political stunts to object to electors,” Gaetz said. “In the year 2001, every single member of the Congressional Black Caucus stood up and objected to Florida’s electors being counted for George W. Bush.”

But the more serious threat, he said, was the banishment of conservatives from social media and technology platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, and even the attempted bankruptcy of seeming conservative alternative Parler.

“As conservatives, we have to become more resilient to the cancel culture,” Gaetz said. “Because it is here, and frankly, I think this is only front end of the wave. The next phase will be the demonetization of conservatives, where they try to make it very difficult for us to use, transfer or spend money, or to pool our money to advance our conservative beliefs. That’s what’s coming next. And that will be more terrifying than getting kicked off of Twitter.”
