Hysteria over the issue of global warming is a ploy used by politicians, according to Rupert Darwall, author of "The Age of Global Warming — A History."
"Politicians get global warming fever when they don't have to run for re-election," Darwall told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"Bill Clinton and Al Gore are not going to run … [President Barack] Obama has won his last election. But get this, they do this kind of thing when they can do it and upset voters."

This week, some 250 climate scientists will meet in Sweden to finalize the latest assessment of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on the subject of global warming.
Darwall believes the IPCC is in for a rude awakening in its ongoing insistence that global warming is real.
"The IPPC has got a terrific PR problem because they're really trapped by their own past statements and over-certainty, overconfidence in global warming and nature [which] hasn't been obedient," he said.
"Global temperatures through the 20th century were rising from about 1910 to 1940 … They then . . . fell all the way through to about the mid '70s, which is when scientists stared getting worried about global cooling.
"And as soon as they started worrying about global cooling, within two or three years, mid '70s, guess what happened? Temperatures started to rise and [there was] the real start of the politics of global warming."
