Country legend Lee Greenwood, who has been a focal point at President-elect Donald Trump's rallies over the past year, will perform his signature song, "God Bless the USA" just before Trump takes the oath of office. Greenwood said Saturday his performance is a "great privilege."
"We came in yesterday and this town is on fire," Greenwood told Newsmax "Saturday Report" anchor Rita Cosby. "Washington D.C. is all about Donald Trump taking office, and I will be singing directly before he puts his hand on the Bible."
Trump will be sworn in on the two Bibles he used in 2017 to take the oath of office: the one used for Abraham Lincoln's inauguration in 1861, stacked with another Trump's mother gave him in 1955, his transition team said Friday.
Greenwood praised Trump as a "good American and certainly a patriot and I love talking to him about what he's about to do."
Greenwood said his wife, Kim, who had been the director of a Miss USA pageant in Tennessee, had worked for Trump at the organization for 21 years, and that is where he first started having conversations with the future president.
"I had conversations with him multiple times at some of the pageants that got to know him then, but it wasn't until he started using 'God Bless the USA' as his walk-on song did we begin to have more of a personal relationship," said Greenwood.
He added that Trump's reaction during the many times he's sang his song for him has been warm, and now, he "can't wait to stand next to him and sing one more time" before he becomes the 47th president.
Greenwood, meanwhile, has offered the "God Bless the USA Bible" for some time, and on Monday, there will be a special gold edition of the Bible coming out Monday to commemorate Trump's inauguration.
Only 5,000 of the Bibles will be printed, and "it honors Donald Trump for [becoming] the 47th president of the United States," said Greenwood.
The Bible also contains, in the back, copies of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence.
