As plans to bring back professional sports begin to be put in place, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told Newsmax TV the experience of attending a sporting event will likely vary from city to city.
During an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV's Emerald Robinson that aired on Thursday's "American Agenda," Azar said attending a sporting event in a city that has very little or no community spread of coronavirus will be a much different experience than how a city experiencing larger outbreaks goes about hosting a game.
"I can assure you President Trump is committed to getting those spring activities back up and running again," he said.
He said sporting events might take place with or without fans. He said if fans can attend, there might be social distancing measures in place. Fans might be required to wear masks or undergo temperature screenings.
He said safety measures will likely vary by location.
"These type of pro-sporting activities are an important part of the American fabric," he said. "It's part of our mental health; it's part of our social engagement."
