It is possible to expose Hillary Clinton's "corrupt" public record without impeachment – Congress can hold hearings before the election to expose her alleged "high crimes and misdemeanors," former federal prosecutor and National Review contributor Andrew McCarthy says.

In an interview Wednesday on "America Talks Live" with host Steve Malzberg, McCarthy, author of "Faithless Execution," said voters "want the country to win" and "one way the country wins is you expose somebody who's extremely corrupt."

"I know that the Democrats in the Senate are never ever going to vote to remove or to disqualify Hillary Clinton," said McCarthy, who supports impeachment

"My point is that Congress and the House has it within their own power" to "at the very least . . . have hearings from now until November which would be about her record and her high crimes and misdemeanors."

He said such hearings "would rivet the country's attention in a very unique and powerful way [as] to what her record is," he added. "That is something they can do by themselves. They don't need the FBI for that."

McCarthy also railed at the Justice Department for allowing Clinton to use attorney-client privilege to keep secret how and why she selected which emails to turn over to the State Department.

By doing so, he argued, "you can shield those communications from the FBI. That's what Mrs. Clinton did."

"She basically said that [aide] Cheryl Mills – among the legion of other lawyers she had – was her lawyer for purposes of putting together and producing to the State Department the emails that she shouldn't have had on a private sever in the first place," he said.

"It was Mills and the legal team that made the decisions, according to Clinton, of what got purged – in this case purging was 'scorch the earth.' They destroyed things, they didn't just delete them . . ."

But when the FBI tried to investigate the process "the answers were 'we can't go into that: attorney client privilege,'" McCarthy said.
