The media bias toward President Donald Trump goes beyond political differences, author and Fox News media analyst Howard Kurtz said Monday.
During an appearance on "The Howie Carr Show," Kurtz was asked about the media's negative coverage of Trump that he said has gotten worse since the 2016 presidential election.
"I call it Trump trauma. I think the media suffers from Trump trauma, and in the book I recount, it's just actually a year ago before the previous address to Congress, the president met with all the network anchors for the traditional background briefing and he said, 'the one thing that surprised me after I was elected was that the coverage never got any better,'" said Kurtz, the author of "Media Madness."
"Of course, it's gotten far worse not just about the Russian investigation, I just think there's beyond dispute if you look at the overwhelming negative tone, the snarkiness, the outright hostility of a lot of the coverage of the president. It is more than ideological."

Kurtz said the negative attitude toward Trump is "cultural, it's visceral, it's tribal."
"He has this street fighter style that his supporters love and the journalists often are just like, well, this is simply not how things in are done in Washington," Kurtz noted.
"And I think that's the source of some of the opposition, but at the same time, the irony here is Donald Trump makes all these outfits money because many of them cater to an anti-Trump crowd. Their ratings are up, the circulation is up, the digital subscriptions are up, so both sides have an incentive to beat the hell out of each other and President Trump, of course, the media make a very attractive foil for him."
