Ken Strange, former FBI agent with the Joint Terrorism Task Force, told Newsmax on Thursday that providing security for the upcoming presidential inauguration is "a huge challenge" for law enforcement personnel.
President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 19, 2025. Strange said on "National Report" that preparing for the inauguration is "certainly shaping up to be … a huge challenge, but I think these men and women are going to be able to rise up and meet that challenge."
He added, "As you know, the threat landscape is populated by … any number of actors that would like to wreak havoc during this inauguration. But you have foreign terrorists," including, "al-Qaida, ISIS, and the intelligence services of Iran, et cetera," which "all adds to this kind of potentially explosive environment."
Strange said that despite these difficulties, "this planning is working very well. You have law enforcement in lockstep, in tandem, cooperating with each other. We have our overseas intelligence agencies listening to the chatter. You've heard that we have 25,000 law enforcement officers … these will be people in uniform, they'll have a high presence, and … we'll be using a kind of high tech and low tech … security measures to stymie any attempts" to disrupt or threaten the proceedings.
He went on to note that "lone-wolf people are very, very difficult to detect" and said that "if there's a vulnerable piece to this, that would be it."
Strange said that it falls on the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and the CIA to monitor the situation.
