Inhofe: Global Warming as Top Priority 'So Stupid'

Americans have wised up to the truth about so-called global warming — and the climate-obsessed president who's made it one of his top priorities should wise up, Sen. James Inhofe, chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, tells Newsmax TV.

"This is so stupid … the American people, by the way, know this," Inhofe said Tuesday on "Newsmax Prime" with J.D. Hayworth. "Global warming as an issue is now dead last at number 15. People have caught on."

Inhofe said the nation is concerned with more pressing concerns, particularly the continuing rise of terrorism.

"To have terrorism taking place throughout the world, we're talking about North Korea, we're talking about Yemen, we're talking about Iran, Iraq, we're talking about Syria, all the areas," he said.

"They're beheading Americans and we have a president who says the most critical thing right now is global warming. That's what's caused the public to catch on and making use the power of the presidency … is not going to work.

"This is the 21st year they've had this big UN meeting on climate change, on global warming … Here the president is talking about joining in [with] $100 billion to spend in third world countries to keep them from providing their own electricity. The whole thing is just ludicrous."

Inhofe said the White House's refusal to take part in a hearing on its role in international climate negotiations before next month's world environmental conference is unprecedented. It was to be a joint hearing of the Committee on Environment and Public Works and Senate Foreign Relations Committee until Democrats objected. Invites to the EPA and White House Council on Environmental Quality were also declined.

"This has never, I believe, never happened before in the history of the United States Senate. When the committee that has the jurisdiction over a bureaucracy and has oversight constitutional requirements not to be able to just pull them in and have them just refuse to show up," Inhofe said.

"It shows just how desperate they are because all we're going to do is try to find out how is the president going to do what he says he's going to do when he goes to Paris, which is reduce Co2 emissions in the United States of America by 28 percent by 2025.

"You can't do it and he knows he can't do it. He is the one who's not allowing his bureaucracy to show up as witnesses, but this has never happened before."
