Lawsuits to stop President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency "missed the point" because they focus on claims that the initiative it is "not filing enough paperwork," Sen. James Lankford, a member of a Senate DOGE caucus, said Wednesday on Newsmax.
"I don't know of an executive order right now that there isn't someone trying to be able to go to court to be able to stop," the Oklahoma Republican said on "Wake Up America."
The three lawsuits against DOGE allege that the nongovernmental efficiency initiative meets the requirements to be considered a federal advisory committee while failing to follow the Federal Advisory Committee Act of 1972 law establishing rules on hiring, disclosure, and other actions.
Under that law, advisory committees must hold all meetings publicly, keep minutes, and represent balanced perspectives.
"It is really interesting that they're going to the courts for this because they're literally filing a lawsuit saying that the DOGE folks are not filing enough paperwork," said Lankford. "That is exactly the objective of DOGE, to do less paperwork and have fewer regulations, but they're literally suing them, saying you're not doing enough."
Further, Lankford argued that DOGE is not a "real department," as "there's no real DOGE building."
"It's a general idea and they just missed the point completely about it," he added.
Lankford also on Wednesday discussed his introduction of legislation to protect born-alive survivors of abortion, noting that the measure will need 60 votes in its first procedural vote on Wednesday to move the matter to a debate.
He described the legislation as a "simple idea."
"Occasionally with a botched abortion, these are late-term abortions that instead of actually destroying the child in the womb, they'll accidentally deliver the child, and so now we don't have a baby in the womb anymore," Lankford said. "Now we have a crying baby on the table.
"Current practice is when that happens and they actually deliver a child rather than destroying the womb, everybody just walks away and leaves the child on the table literally crying. They watch them die and then they dispose of the child because they can't take the child's life at that point."
Lankford also spoke out against Democrats who he said that are trying to stop or slow the confirmations of Trump's nominees.
One such nominee, he said, is Defense secretary pick Pete Hegseth, who is facing last-minute allegations through a letter written by a former ex-sister-in-law alleging abusive behavior from 15 years ago.
"This is a last-second Hail Mary pass from Democrats to try to be able to slow down Pete Hegseth from stepping into the Department of Defense and to be a game changer in that place," Lankford said, comparing the arguments against Hegseth's confirmation to the fight against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
