President Donald Trump's decision to employ his son-in-law Jared Kushner — who works as a senior adviser for no salary — in the West Wing did not project the best optics, Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV.
During his weekly appearance on "Newsmax Now," O'Reilly spoke with host John Bachman about Kushner, whose security clearance was downgraded from top secret to secret because of issues with his background investigation.
"Donald Trump ran on, he's gonna drain the swamp, he wants to get the Washington creatures, the professional politicians and bureaucrats, out," O'Reilly said. "So who's he gonna bring in? He's gonna bring in the people he knows.
"He knows Kushner. I don't know Kushner, I don't know what his ability is, I don't know anything about him, OK? The only thing I know in this realm is that it doesn't look good for a president to have his family in positions of power."

O'Reilly did compliment Trump's daughter Ivanka, who is married to Kushner and who also works in the White House.
"However, to be fair, Ivanka Trump I think presents herself very well to the world, has been a plus," said O'Reilly, who also praised former first ladies Michelle Obama and Laura Bush.
"But it doesn't look good to have too many family members in the Cabinet."
