The Washington Republican establishment — and that includes the media — have a "different standard" for Marco Rubio than for other candidates, presidential candidate Jeb Bush told Newsmax TV on Friday.

In an interview with "Newsmax Now" hosts J.D. Hayworth and John Bachman, Bush called them "the Washington elites and the folks that kind of are the establishment of the media in Republican hierarchy."

He had been asked whether Fox News might be favoring Rubio in its campaign coverage.

"But that's OK," Bush said. "I have higher expectations on myself than others do. It doesn't bother me a bit.

"I know this is a test. In order to do well, you have to beat expectations — but this test only sharpens you for the general election and not only sharpens you to be president.

"Whatever the conditions are, life's not always entirely fair," the former Florida governor said. "You just have to put on your 'big boy' pants and go to battle.

"That's what I'm doing."
