Former FBI Director James Comey could find himself in hot legal water as he launches the book tour for his new memoir, conservative political strategist Jeffrey Lord told Newsmax TV on Friday.
"He's in the unusual position of being on the outskirts of an investigation of himself and he's got to be careful," Lord, a contributing editor to The American Spectator, said to Miranda Khan on Newsmax's "America Talks Live."

"I would just think if I were James Comey's lawyer, I would say 'be very careful here on your book tour … whatever you're going to say in this book, this could be a problem for you legally.'
"I mean unlike a lot of other people who write their memoirs, I think this might be a problem, he needs to be very careful."
Comey, who was fired from post by President Donald Trump, is looking "come out hot" and take on critics during the tour for his book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership," published by Flatiron Books on April 17th, Axios reported on Friday.
Trump fired Comey May 9, 2017, amid reports he was dissatisfied with Comey's handling of the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in tampering with the 2016 presidential election. Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel eight days later.
"He's eager to go where his critics are and take them on," Axios' Mike Allen said in the report. "Comey has been quiet for nearly a year … he has heard a lot of lies and misstatements about the FBI that he intends to correct."
