John Fund: Elizabeth Warren Fearful of 'The Clinton Machine'

The political machine behind Hillary Clinton's presidential run is so powerful and capable of ugliness that Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is steering clear of challenging her, Newsmax analyst John Fund says.

"The Clinton machine is incredibly effective. I'll give you as evidence the fact that there are no national stature Democrats running against her so far in the primaries," Fund told Rick Ungar, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"The Clinton machine has a fearsome reputation and I'm led to believe people like Elizabeth Warren said, 'you know, I have a great time in the Senate, I'm in the leadership in the Senate now. Do I really want to have tire tracks all over me from the Clinton machine if I run for president?'"

Warren's name has been brought up continuously as a possible female opponent of the former secretary of state for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. Warren has insisted she isn't running.

Fund — foreign affairs columnist for National Review and author of "Obama's Enforcer: Eric Holder's Justice Department," written with Hans von Spakovsky and published by Broadside Books — said the inner workings of the Clinton political machine would disturb most Americans.

"It would really bother them if you could get rid of the curtain completely and you'd see what really happens behind the scenes. And I'm not saying Republicans don't do this behavior as well, but the Clinton machine can get pretty ugly," Fund said.

"In the 1990s, they had a secret police of private detectives investigating everyone who was involved with Bill, all of their political opponents.

"It's a rough crowd and it's the same thing that makes Hillary Clinton a very powerful candidate, makes her a vulnerable candidate. Because she looks like a pure political animal rather than someone who you can relate to as a real human being."
