Jonathan Gilliam: Why Have Obamacare When Govt. Can't Take Care of Vets?

A former FBI special agent and retired Navy SEAL tells Newsmax he questions how the government can put together Obamacare but can't take better care of its veterans.

Jonathan Gilliam points out to host Andrew Wilkow on Newsmax TV's "Unfiltered" that just 1 percent of the American population serves in the military.

"We're not talking about a large, large, large number of people," Gilliam says. "Why is it that we go out and our politicians make such an effort to come up with a national healthcare system when they haven't even taken care of 1 percent of the population that has stood up and whether they've gone to combat or not, they've stood up and said, 'I swear to defend this country, this Constitution.'

"It would make more sense for every veteran to get out of the military, renounce their citizenship, go to another country, and come back in illegally. They would get more benefits if they did that than if they served and get out, they get nothing."

The discussion on "Unfiltered" centered on two points: the Obama administration's lack of real change regarding the VA hospital scandal that led to the deaths of several veterans who were waiting for care, and a government proposal that would have provided housing for illegal immigrants. That plan was scrapped before it went into effect.

Regarding the VA, Gilliam notes, "it'd be better just to scrap the whole system, give every veteran a card and free insurance."
