Israel's decision to close its embassy in Ireland should serve as a lesson to other European countries who have gotten "even more anti-Israel" after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, KT McFarland, former deputy national security advisor during President-elect Donald Trump's first administration, said on Newsmax Sunday.
"The European countries have always been antisemitic, anti-Israel, and especially in recent months and years," McFarland told Newsmax's "Sunday Agenda." "I think it's a lesson not just to Ireland but to the other European countries."
And considering Trump is taking office in January, the Europeans are "going in the wrong direction" on Israel, as he's a "pro-Israel guy," McFarland said.
She added that the Europeans made a "huge mistake" by allowing in illegal immigrants from the Middle East who did not mesh with their culture.
"They didn't make them mesh with their culture," she said "They didn't encourage people to adopt the culture of the countries they went to, whether it was the Netherlands, whether it was in Germany, whether it was in Britain. They said, OK, go do your own thing. We'll have multiculturalism. But it failed spectacularly."
And now, the European leaders don't know what to do, McFarland said.
"They were hoping about three days ago that maybe with the Syrian government falling that maybe a lot of the refugees who have been in European countries for the last 10 years since the Syrian civil war, might want to go back to Syria," she said. "But so far there does not seem to be a big movement of Syrians wanting to return to Syria."
Meanwhile, not much is known about the government that has taken over in Syria after the ouster of President Bashar Assad, except that "they're not unified."
"Most of them are Muslim, but different varieties of Muslim," she said. "There are some Christian groups, there are some Kurdish groups, and so far they've not fought each other."
But as the groups could start in-fighting, that was when Trump called for the United States to stay out of the Syrian struggles.
"We do not belong in the middle of what could be a protracted civil war," she said. "The answer is we don't know."
