Lanny Davis: Benghazi Panel Is '100 Percent' Political

The special House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks is "100 percent" political because Republican Chairman Trey Gowdy is focused on destroying Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, Washington attorney Lanny Davis told Newsmax TV on Friday.

"Mr. Gowdy has done absolutely nothing for over a year despite Mrs. Clinton's asking to testify, but he waits until just three months before the Iowa caucus to allow her to testify," Davis, who worked in the Bill Clinton White House, told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth.

Clinton testifies before the Benghazi panel on Oct. 22. The Iowa caucuses are next Feb. 1.

"So, when Kevin McCarthy said, 'Well, this is great because we got the email story out and her poll numbers have gone south,' he was actually telling the truth as to what Mr. Gowdy's been up to," Davis said, "because, otherwise, he'd be arguing with Republican committees on their findings of no wrongdoing."

Seven other committees of the Republican-controlled Congress have investigated the Benghazi attacks that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, including two former Navy SEALs.

They include the House Homeland Security Committee, the Intelligence Committee, and the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Davis told Hayworth that these panels "reached conclusions" on the assaults of Sept. 11, 2012.

"Now, what is Mr. Gowdy going to do any different, unless he's ready to criticize the chairmen and the members of those committees — and he hasn't been willing to do that?"
