Lara Trump said she is very hopeful that schools will reopen this fall.
During a Wednesday appearance on Newsmax TV's "American Agenda," the senior adviser to President Donald Trump's reelection campaign said that, as a parent, she wants to know if schools will reopen come September.
"I, like so many other parents, am very, very hopeful to see schools open come September," she said.
She said Trump's stance on schools reopening shows he is prioritizing the country's children.
Trump has tweeted that he wants to see schools reopen and kids return to the classroom for in-person learning.
"The implications of keeping kids home are actually very negative for them on a lot of levels," Lara Trump said, citing comments made by Dr. Anthony Fauci and the American Academy of Pediatrics on the topic of school closures.
She said it is getting to a point where it could be "incredibly detrimental" to the education and social development of children if they don't go back to school.
She said the president is advocating for children's education and social development by pushing for schools to reopen.
The president's daughter-in-law also noted that the coronavirus "isn't a big threat" to young children.
"In fact, it looks like the flu is much more dangerous for young kids to catch than the coronavirus," she said. "We can't keep schools closed in perpetuity like some of these governors want to do."
She did acknowledge that local leaders will ultimately decide how schools reopen, but said the president can make suggestions.
Reopening schools doesn't only impact kids. She said working parents want to know if they can return to their jobs full time.
"It makes a big difference in parent's lives as well," she said.
She then ripped Joe Biden for siding with teachers' unions that want to keep schools closed. She accused him of being in "the pocket" of lobbyists and union bosses.
