Karoline Leavitt, who will be President-elect Donald Trump’s White House press secretary, told Newsmax on Friday that Americans should expect to see much different, and more transparent, press briefings than under the Biden administration.
“I can definitely assure your audience is that they are going to be receiving truth from the White House press secretary, and they are also going to be seeing a lot more of the leader of the free world,” Leavitt told “Rob Schmitt Tonight." “If you recall, in President Trump's first term, he himself took to the White House podium. He often called the press into the Oval Office to talk to them directly and take questions from them.
“So, we are going to be a much more transparent, truthful and accessible White House than what the American people have seen over the past four years. And I will work hard every day to effectively communicate President Trump's message to as many Americans as possible. We do have some fun changes to share. Stay tuned next week.”
Leavitt also addressed speculation that Trump’s inauguration Monday was being moved indoors for security reasons and not out of caution because of dangerously cold temperatures expected in Washington, D.C.
“I would strongly push back on the speculation we've seen online about security concerns,” Leavitt said. “President Trump was very clear in the statement that he released that he was looking at the forecast, and our team spoke to him about it, and he made this decision, while difficult, in the best interest of his supporters.
"It is going to be literally freezing here in Washington, D.C., on Monday, and it would be very unsafe and unwise to have not just American citizens out there enjoying the inauguration, but also law enforcement, K-9 dogs, emergency personnel.
“There's a lot of people who are putting their lives on the line to protect the president on Monday. He doesn't want to make it any harder for them.
"So, our team is working with Secret Service and with city officials here in Washington to make sure that President Trump can still be sworn in on Monday, which he will. And it's going to be different, and it's going to be something the American people have never seen. But, hey, that's just on brand for Donald Trump. It will still be spectacular. It's still going to be a show.”
