Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., on Monday called for equivalent punishment for Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., for her anti-Semitic tweets as were given Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, for his white supremacy remarks.
In an interview on Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now," Zeldin, one of only two Jewish Republicans in the House, said "There's more that needs to get done."
Newsmax TV is carried in 65 million cable homes on DirecTV Ch. 349, Dish Network Ch. 216, Xfinity Ch. 1115, Spectrum (check guide), U-verse Ch. 1220, FiOS Ch. 615 or More Systems Here.
Omar posted a statement on her Twitter account earlier Monday to apologize for her Sunday night tweet about who is giving American politicians money in exchange for a pro-Israel stance.
But in her statement, she also said she reaffirmed "the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry . . ."
"She should have stopped her apology after the first paragraph," Zeldin said.
"You know last month the House of Representatives passed a resolution nearly unanimously to condemn white supremacy remarks made by a Republican congressman," he added, referring to Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. "That Republican congressman apologized on the House floor . . . he was also stripped of all this committee assignments."
"She should be stripped of her committee assignments, including the House Foreign Affairs Committee," Zeldin said.
Zeldin added he would be willing to speak with Omar in an effort to work out their differences.
"I will meet with any member of Congress — Republican, Democrat, conservative, liberal . . . it's my job," he said.
