The legal counsel for Hobby Lobby — which won its Supreme Court fight to stop health-insurance funding of certain contraceptives it equates with abortion — called Monday's ruling a triumph for religious freedom.
"In this case, the government is trying to ram its contraceptive mandate down the throat of [the owners of Hobby Lobby]. The Supreme Court stood up and said no, you can't do that,'' Adèle Keim, legal counsel for the Becket Fund and attorney for the Green Family, owners of Hobby Lobby Inc., told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on

"The writing's on the wall with this decision for the government's argument that it can just force Americans, whether they're companies, for-profits or nonprofits, to do its bidding when they have a religious objective.''
She called the 5-4 decision — in which the court said owners of private companies can object on religious grounds to the Affordable Care Act requirement that [requires] employers to provide insurance covering some birth control — "right'' and "right down the line.''
"They did exactly what they needed to do. They applied the law carefully, narrowly, and in a balanced way. That's how religious liberty works in this country,'' Keim said.
