Mariel Hemingway: Project Veritas' James O'Keefe Should Meet Face-to-Face

Actress Mariel Hemingway says filmmaker James O'Keefe should be honest about his intentions and meet face-to-face with her if he wants to discuss fracking.

O'Keefe's Project Veritas released a video last week in which he secretly recorded Hemingway, actor Ed Begley Jr. and documentary filmmakers Josh and Rebecca Tickell. Project Veritas set up the meeting with an actor posing as a Middle Eastern oil sheik promising to bankroll their anti-fracking film if they didn't say who was funding it.

O'Keefe says the film shows the hypocrisy of Hollywood filmmakers and actors, but Hemingway said she has no connection to the film and showed up only to give celebrity power to the Tickells, who are her friends.

Hemingway, appearing Sunday on Fox News Channel's "Media Buzz," said she was suspicious during the meeting: The man didn't seem like an important person, and at one point his handler said he had an "audition" in an hour, then quickly changed it to "meeting."

Hemingway said that Project Veritas claims to be seeking the truth, but is deceptive in its practices. She said O'Keefe should have called her and discussed their views on fracking honestly.

"[H]e didn’t have the courage to just come out and have a meeting with us and say, 'I'm against you.' Good, let's get face-to-face," Hemingway said. "Just say it. Be upfront. Be honest."
