President Donald Trump slams the news media for its coverage because he realizes that they are "pampered children" — and he has "nothing but contempt for them," former Rep. Michael Flanagan told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"If the American people really understood what pampered children these really are running the press, they'd understand why the billionaire standing in front of them who knows this has nothing but contempt for them," Flanagan, the who represented Illinois as a Republican from 1995 to 1997, told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth.

"They don't understand how they're not held in such high regard.

"They've put on this image of having their sleeves rolled up and . . . making little, tiny bits of money and working hard," he said.

"This so often isn't the case, particularly with the elite media here in Washington."
