One media expert thinks Donald Trump's comments on immigration are far overshadowed by the policies that have led to "borders without control" in the United States.

During an appearance on Newmax TV's  "The Hard Line," Michael Levine tells host Ed Berliner Trump's immigration soundbites are "outrageous," but that he's essentially telling the truth about what is really happening.

"There's a great sense that is he very pleased with himself and that's not much of a debate," Levine says. "But the question really, bigger question, is that despite his outrageous sound bites, when he raises the topic of immigration, which is more outrageous? What he says or what allows this nation to get into the place that it's in the first place?

"I would argue that far more outrageous than anything Donald Trump could ever say is the logic that leads this nation to basically have borders without control on the southern border for decades. That's more outrageous."

Trump, a Republican candidate for president, is soaring in polls. The latest Quinnipiac University survey has him leading the crowded GOP field of candidates.

Trump said this week he will not use a debate coach for the upcoming GOP presidential debate, asserting, "I am what I am."

Levine says he believes Trump's pledge of not using a coach, but he does think the real estate mogul will have some "zinger lines" ready to fire off.

"That statement really is about what all politicians do before a debate, which is try to lower expectations," Levine says. "I promise you right now that Donald Trump has four or five zinger lines that he is dedicated to getting out no matter what he's asked about, and those zinger lines will be used on newscast after newscast in the days after the debate. So that's his only preparation."

When Trump launched his campaign in June, all the talk was about his comments about immigration. He has since branched out and is spreading his views about America's relationship with Russia and the situation with Iran.

This week, Trump also said he would consider Palin for a post in his administration  should he win the election next year.
