Michael Reagan: Paul Ryan Trying to Protect Other GOP Candidates

Political commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV on Tuesday House Speaker Paul Ryan slammed Donald Trump's comments on the Trump University judge because he's "trying to protect the Republican Party on the downside of the ticket, the House side of the ticket."

"Paul Ryan has to say something," Reagan told "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner in an interview. He is the author of the new book, "Lessons My Father Taught Me."

Ryan's message, he said, is: 'Listen, this is not what the Republican Party wants to stand for. We don't want to stand in that same square that Donald Trump is putting us in. Please vote for your congressmen. Vote to keep us in charge in the House of Representatives."

The eldest son of President Ronald Reagan told Berliner that he — and his family — are "absolutely insulted" when Trump is compared to the 40th president.

"His grandchildren are in fact insulted that they would compare Donald Trump to their grandfather," he told Berliner. "The whole Reagan family is insulted by it.

"Donald Trump is not Ronald Reagan."
