Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told Newsmax on Tuesday that Democrat Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be prosecuted and disbarred amid a claim she improperly hired an alleged romantic partner to prosecute former President Donald Trump and financially benefited from their relationship.
The claim was made in a court motion filed Monday on behalf of Mike Roman, a former Trump campaign official and one of the 14 remaining co-defendants in the case regarding Trump's alleged role in trying to subvert Georgia's 2020 election results. The motion claims the prosecution "is invalid and unconstitutional because the Fulton County district attorney never had legal authority to appoint the special prosecutor, who assisted in obtaining both grand jury indictments."
It also claims special prosecutor Nathan Wade, a private attorney, paid for lavish vacations he took with Willis using the Fulton County funds his law firm received. County records showed that Wade, who has played a prominent role in the case, has been paid nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, and Willis is responsible for authorizing his compensation. But the motion claims Wade has been paid $1 million in legal fees since becoming special prosecutor.
"Fani Willis is likely to end up being the person who gets criminally charged for the fraud of having her lover and her make a whole bunch of money off the taxpayers so they could live large and all in the name of trying to go after Donald Trump," Huckabee told "Rob Schmitt Tonight." "It's just beyond a scandal. She should be disbarred [and] she should be criminally charged for it."
