FAIR's Dane: Obama Gave 'Middle Finger to Congress'

President Barack Obama’s Rose Garden speech in which he vowed to act alone on immigration was tantamount to giving "the middle finger to Congress," according to Bob Dane of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

"The response by the Obama administration has been laughable and it’s frustrating most Americans," Dane said on Newsmax TV’s "America’s Forum."

"We watched a Rose Garden speech by Obama that was really a brazen and an unapologetic attempt to shift the blame from himself to House Republicans," Dane said. "It’s ludicrous. It was incredibly un-presidential and petulant and most certainly unconstitutional. The nonsense has to stop."

Obama has "systematically dismantled the interior and perimeter enforcement" during the course of his two-term presidency, according to Dane.

"The bottom line is, if we don’t care about our laws in the United States, why the devil should we expect illegal aliens to obey them?"

Dane said there is a glimmer of progress with news that border patrol agents and immigration judges are being sent from the interior of the country to the borders, as well as billboards being put up in Central America instructing people not to come to the United States. But the too little, too late moves also come with negatives, he said.

Moving border patrol agents to the border opens interior check points to drug cartels, especially in Arizona, he said. Reassigning immigration judges "weakens the removal process for the rest of the country" and the billboards and ads are putting out a "far different message" than the present reality, which is "very few illegal aliens being returned so Obama needs to practice what he’s preaching right now."

When the president goes to Congress next week "hat in hand" to request $2 billion to deal with the immigration crisis, Dane suggested Congress approve the money with strong conditions: Guarantee the removal of most of the illegal immigrants who have entered the country, stop abusing executive power and start enforcing the current immigration laws.

"That’s the upper hand Congress has, it’s the play they should make next week," Dane said.

Obama is resorting to "dramatic power grabs that go far beyond established standard," he said, adding that they are blatant attempts to "reward the far left voting base" and are akin to "the type of arrogant behavior you’d see from a dictator in a third world banana republic."
