Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that Hillary Clinton's refusal to cooperate with the State Department's email investigation showed "an element of real arrogance."

"It darkens and it deepens the scandal over those emails," Buchanan, a former aide to Republican Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "It shows her to be irresponsible as secretary of state in not fulfilling her duties."

"It's a distraction for her campaign and draws her right back into that," Buchanan said. "It points to real problems for Hillary and the FBI investigation — which even if the State Department does not say it was criminal misconduct, they're saying that she behaved grossly irresponsible in her duties as secretary of state."
