Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says the intense scrutiny his family would face by the media would be a major factor in whether he runs for president in 2016.
"There was a time in our history where we lived where the media completely left your family alone and really left everything alone other than your public life," Paul told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Now we've gone kind of the opposite, where every detail not only of you, but your friends, your family, your neighbors, everything becomes fodder for the press, and it does take a toll on people. So, it is a consideration," he said Tuesday.
Paul said other considerations are whether he gets everything he wants done in Kentucky in 2014, as well as whether he can help the Republican Party.
"I figure I have a lot to do in the next year that includes trying to get some legislation through as well as trying to do things I can do to grow the party, as well as to help improve the situation in my state," Paul said.
As to when Paul will definitively decide on whether he'll seek the Republican nomination, don't expect a quick decision.
"It's hard to quantify . . . It's going to take us the year to figure it out," he said.
