Kirsten Powers: Obamacare Only One Reason Dems Will Lose Senate

Liberal columnist Kirsten Powers agrees with MSNBC's Chris Matthews: Democrats will lose the Senate in November's midterm elections.

"It's all baked in the cake already," Powers said Thursday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

Though Obamacare is part of the problem, it's not the only reason Democrats are doomed, she said.

"Even if Obamacare had gone really well I think that the Senate would still be in play," she said. "Obama just has a very low approval rating."

Also, Americans are unhappy about other things, she said, particularly the economy.

Stephen Hayes of The Weekly Standard agreed, noting that Obama came to office on the promise of restoring faith in government, but hasn't succeeded.

"It didn't work with the stimulus, it didn't work with Cash for Clunkers, you can go down the line," he said. "It's not working with Obamacare. This is what policy failure looks like."

Six Democratic senators in tight races have asked President Barack Obama to approve the long-stalled Keystone XL pipeline in hopes of salvaging their campaigns, but Powers thinks even that wouldn't do any good.

"If the government isn't functioning properly, and you're the people in power, it's just not going to work out well for you," Powers said.
