The staff officers working on the bombing campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS) are less than impressed with the effort, dubbing it "Shock and Yawn," says retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters.
Appearing Thursday on Fox News Channel's
"The O'Reilly Factor," Peters said his contacts at U.S. Central Command say the military is "disheartened by the timidity" of the effort.
The small pin-prick strikes are having little effect, Peters added, often hitting only individual trucks. But ISIS fighters are out in the open near the Turkish border, in view of the press.
Peters suggested sending in B-52s to saturate the area with bombs, since the area's civilians have fled into Turkey.
"But I am convinced that this president is determined to keep the body count low," Peters said. "It's a political ploy with November in mind. It's not a serious strike against ISIS."
