The last Republican-led attempt to overhaul the nation's healthcare system "was fake repeal" of Obamacare, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Newsmax TV.
Paul appeared on "The Joe Pags Show" and addressed the healthcare debate. The GOP has introduced multiple bills this year, but efforts to repeal and replace the 2010 Obamacare law have come up short.
"It was just not really repeal; it was fake repeal," Paul said of the Graham-Cassidy bill that would have used federal money for states to build their own healthcare platforms. "Basically what it did is it kept almost all of the Obamacare taxes, kept almost all of the Obamacare spending.
"In fact, [Sen.] Lindsey Graham was all over national TV saying, we're keeping all your money, you're going to get all your money, we're just giving it to the states. Block granting Obamacare is not repeal of it. If you were to block grant the money before Obamacare, that's something I would have considered."

Paul and a handful of other Republican senators were opposed to the bill, which never had enough support to be brought up for a vote.
"I've been working with the president for nine months now on a free-market alternative that costs absolutely nothing," Paul said. "It legalizes the ability of individuals to buy insurance across state lines through health associations.
"He can do this through executive action, through interpreting an existing law, and we think he's going to do it, and we think this is what we ought to be for."
