It's "quite incredible" there are still no travel bans to and from Ebola-afflicted west Africa, says Dr. Richard Amerling, a nephrologist and internist who is president of the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons.
"When you consider that this outbreak has been raging in western Africa for many months now, you would think that they would have had some basic plan in place," Amerling said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.

"Instead, they come out with these ridiculous pronouncements trying to reassure everybody, and it betrays a profound ignorance of how devastating this disease is, and it also betrays our total lack of experience with this disease.
"For [President Barack] Obama to say that we don't have an epidemic here — of course we don't have an epidemic. But why should we have any cases of Ebola here? They should have been putting travel restrictions in place for months now, and they still won't do it. It's quite incredible."
Amerling says the only group truly fighting the virus is Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization.
"Doctors Without Borders and the Nigerian and west African medical corps. They're the ones that have experience with it," he said.
Amerling said there is no accountability for the botched hospital safeguards that have occurred, exposing medical personnel to the virus.
"When you think about bureaucratic incompetence in general, no one is ever accountable," he said.
"Here we have three cases of Ebola in the country. No one's going to retire or resign or be fired. No one's going to face any kind of discipline, and so the incompetence just goes on and on and on, and this sort of thing in the private sector certainly would not be tolerated."
