A recent poll finding that gun ownership in America is on the decline does not jibe with historical fact, says former Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack, founder of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.
"Since [President Barack] Obama's been in office, sales of guns, including what they call assault rifles, have skyrocketed," Mack said Wednesday on "America’s Forum" on
Newsmax TV.
"Throughout world history there's never been a time where more guns have been sold and more ammunition," he said. "We also have two unprecedented stories from major metropolitan areas in the United States that simply do not coincide with the information in this poll."
A
recent General Social Survey found that 32 percent of Americans either own a firearm themselves or live with someone who does, tying a record low set in 2010.

The poll results are obviously flawed, said Mack, because most gun owners don't trust Obama and won’t register their guns.
He noted the Detroit police chief’s statement that gun ownership in the Motor City, particularly among black residents, has resulted in "a huge reduction in crime in his city," and similar sentiments expressed by a Milwaukee sheriff touting gun ownership.
It's "unprecedented that Detroit and Milwaukee are pushing for gun ownership," said Mack. "The poll talks about how, according to gun grabbers, gun ownership is down in homes. Then why do we need more laws? People are doing it on their own."
"They don't need your stupid laws and you don't need to violate the Second Amendment in order to achieve your goals, do you? Leave us alone and go home," Mack said. "Gun control in America is against the law. The supreme law of the land does not allow for gun control in America."
Since it can’t ban guns, the Obama administration is trying to outlaw ammunition, Mack said.
"They actually believe … that the Second Amendment doesn't protect ammunition, it just protects the gun, so they're going to regulate ammunition out of existence," he said.
Gun rights advocates need to "put a chokehold" on the "gun grabbers," he added.
"A lot of it is working itself out, and the statistics are very clear: gun ownership, and especially a gun in your home, makes you safer. The liberals just hate that and they try to manipulate the statistics the other way."
