The deadly terror attack in France Thursday that killed more than 70 people and injured over 100 others makes clear that radical Islam has declared war on the West," conservative commentator Richard A. Viguerie told Newsmax TV.

"They're serious about it — and if we don't recognize that here, we're going to lose," Viguerie, chairman of Conservative HQ.com, told "Newsmax Prime" host Miranda Khan.

The assault led presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to postpone his vice presidential announcement on Friday. He is expected to name Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.

"Yes, Trump made the right decision to postpone," Viguerie told Khan. "We need to focus on Nice and making sure that that doesn't happen here in America. National security is going to be a huge issue.

"I suspect it'll be two issues in this campaign: one is the American economy and lack of jobs and how the Democrats hurt our economy — and national security.

"National security literally moves the dial towards the Republicans in a major way with women," he said. "This is a tragedy, but the American people are going to be very focused on national security like they haven't in elections in a long time."
