Log Cabin's Angelo: ACA Ad 'More Offensive' Than Robertson

An ad that uses prancing, half-naked go-go boys to sell the Affordable Care Act to gays is more offensive than the remarks spouted by "Duck Dynasty's" Phil Robertson, according to the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay advocacy group.

"This ad promotes the stereotypes that allow people like [Robertson] to make the statements that he does," Gregory Angelo, the group's executive director, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It says that this is an administration that is desperate and is really scraping the bottom of the barrel to get people to enroll in Obamacare.

"They don't care if they're going to exploit the communities that they espouse to represent."

Story continues below the video:

The ad, which is airing as an online video, features four young men in spandex shorts and reindeer antlers dancing and frolicking as a female lounge singer warbles, "Get Enrolled!" to the tune of "Let It Snow."

It was produced by Out 2 Enroll, a collaboration between the Sellers Dorsey Foundation, the Center for American Progress and the Federal Agencies Project.

Last week, the A&E cable network suspended family patriarch Robertson, 67, from its hit reality show after he labeled homosexuality a sin and compared it to bestiality, among other things, in an interview with GQ magazine.

Asked what he considered sinful, Robertson said, "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

Calling himself a Bible-thumper and paraphrasing Corinthians, he added: "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won't inherit the kingdom of God."

Angelo, whose group calls itself the nation's "largest organization representing gay conservatives and allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality for all Americans," called the negative response to Robertson's comments, suspension a "knee-jerk reaction from the left."

He said the Log Cabin Republicans see the controversy as a "great opportunity to have a conversation with a community that the gay community has overlooked, shut out, refused to engage for a while … the Evangelical Christian community."

Angelo believes "Duck Dynasty" is so successful because it represents a part of America a lot of people can relate to.

"This is just a family getting by that built up a business, built up their own business, and they actually pursued the American dream," he said.

"They're not coming from the urban part of the country, they're not these limousine liberals. They have their own values and they hold those near and dear."

Angelo said the most offensive part of Robertson's interview is not that he doesn't approve of gays, but that he believes "homosexuality is kind of this gateway to everything from polygamy to bestiality to promiscuity ...

"We're no different than anybody else and being gay has no link and it does not link to anything as outrageous as something like bestiality."
