Roger Stone: Trump Must Undertake 'Trench Warfare' to Beat Cruz

After Donald Trump's drubbing in Wisconsin, the Republican front-runner needs to move into "the trench warfare phase of the campaign," political consultant Roger Stone told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"You need to recruit to your side people who know the rules, who know the bodies, who know the leaders, who know the process," Stone told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "It's the pain of inexperience, but enthusiastic first-timers and advance men are not going to win this nomination.

"Trump needs help," he added. "First-rate help is available to him."

Stone, who described himself as "merely a dedicated Trump supporter," said that the developer was beaten in the Badger State by the Republican establishment.

"Ted Cruz had the backing of the Walker-Ryan machine, the backing of the Bushes, the Romneys, the Ryans — other globalist establishment Republicans with whom he shares all of his issued positions. It was Trump against the world in Wisconsin.

"I was disappointed frankly by the results," Stone said of the 48-to-35 percent finish. "Donald himself put up a valiant effort, campaigned very hard. Despite a valiant effort, they fell short."

He slammed Cruz as a "Bush country-club Republican" who is "being used by the establishment.

"But I don't think the establishment likes him on a personal level," Stone told Malzberg. "I think he's being used."
