Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is resonating with voters in Iowa because he is "transparent" and "seemingly very believable," Southern Baptist Convention President Ronnie Floyd told
Newsmax TV on Friday.
"He's likeable via the camera and that's a very important thing," Floyd told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "He's shown some real good wisdom in some matters, but most of all is that he's relating with the cultural social issues."
"He's very friendly to what he believes relating to evangelicals," Floyd said.

While
Carson has topped current front-runner Donald Trump in a poll of Iowa voters released on Friday — the retired neurosurgeon's second triumph in the Midwest this week — Floyd said he was not sure whether this is a long-term reflection of outrage toward Washington politicians.
"There's seemingly a lack of trust toward various people who maybe have great proven track records, but because they have been seen as more establishment, there seems to be some questions, or even a semi-rebellion."
"Whoever ends up being the next president of the United States, we want this man or this woman … being qualified in every way, as well as friendly as much as possible towards those of us who are of the evangelical faith," Floyd said.
One way to do that is for candidates to "get in a room with evangelical leaders and find out what's really important to them," he told Hayworth. "It's important to have conversations with groups or conversations one-on-one relating to certain people so that you can more articulate and understand the heart of that person."
"That's really important," Floyd said. "We need to learn how to talk to each other."
